Paul Stocks
Regional ELV Operations Manager

Paul’s journey with EMR began 40 years ago, on the weighbridge at EMR’s Leeds site in 1985. Since that first day, Paul has been part of EMR’s remarkable evolution; from a regional metal recycling business to a global leader in sustainable materials. And along the way, he’s grown with it.

Today, Paul is the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Operations Manager for Yorkshire and the North East, overseeing a vital part of EMR’s circular economy operations. But his success didn’t come overnight – it’s built upon decades of commitment, adaptability and a deep belief in the value of what EMR does.

“When I started at EMR Leeds, it was a brand-new site with no established customer base. Over time, we have turned it into a busy, thriving depot.”

After more than 20 years in Leeds, many as Depot Manager, Paul took on a new challenge in Hartlepool, where he spent the next 15 years strengthening operations. His return to Yorkshire marked a new chapter, taking on a broader leadership role at a time when EMR’s ELV business was poised for transformation.

Working alongside national ELV lead, Mark Sacker, Paul played a key role in reshaping the division. With renewed investment, the team delivered sustained growth across EMR’s global ELV division.

"The progress we’ve made in the last couple of years has been unbelievable! It’s been incredibly rewarding to help build a stronger, more resilient ELV operation.”

But for Paul, it’s not just about what’s already been achieved – it's about what’s next. As the automotive sector faces increasing pressure to recycle more and waste less, Paul is excited by the innovations that lie ahead.

“There’s a real shift happening in the industry. Manufacturers are realising just how much potential there is in the materials they already have. Advancements in technology - like AI, robotics, and smarter sorting systems - are going to transform material recovery – and EMR is right at the forefront.”

With growing environmental pressures and the drive towards a circular economy, Paul sees EMR as being at the heart of this shift.

"We’re already well positioned because we’ve invested heavily in technology, and our expertise in metal recycling is second to none. But we also know that innovation doesn’t stop. It’s about making sure that recycled materials are not just recovered – but reused, to keep the cycle moving.”

Reflecting on his career, Paul credits his success to his strong work ethic and passion for the industry, as well as the ability to embrace change.

“You need to enjoy what you do and be willing to adapt. Every day with EMR is different and that’s what makes it so exciting!”
