We have a heritage dating back to the 1950s, when the Sheppard Group was established in the North of England.

The Sheppard Group is established in North West England.

The Sheppard Group acquires the George Cohen, Sons and Company (GCS Steels Limited), part of the 600 Group.

1994

The Sheppard Group merges with the Cooper Group consisting of 26 sites, and changes its name to European Metal Recycling Ltd.

2000 - 2006

  • In the UK, the acquisition of Mayer Parry gives national coverage.
  • Operations are purchased in Germany and the Netherlands.
  • Investments are made in the USA (Gulf Coast, Philadelphia and Minnesota).

2007

  • Acquisition of Mountstar, the UK's 2nd largest non-ferrous recycler.
  • Joint venture signed with MBA Polymers to recycle plastics in the UK.

Purchase of a Mega Shredder in Minneapolis, USA.

MBA Polymers UK officially opens on 1 October.

Further acquisitions across the UK and USA.

2012 - 2013

  • Agreements are signed for a shredder waste processing and treatment plant in Oldbury, UK.
  • Acquisition of EMR's first inland European recycling site in Magdeburg, Germany.
  • Development of an in-house chartering company.
