Plastics recycling

MBA Polymers

As one of the world’s largest metal recycling companies, we reclaim and recycle around 10 million tonnes of steel and non-ferrous metals every single year. But removing metal waste is only the beginning. In our pursuit of zero waste, we also recycle many of the plastics present in these end-of-life goods.

Our subsidiary company, MBA Polymers UK, is a global leader in plastic recycling. Today's Automotive Shredder Residue (ASR) from end-of-life-vehicles and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), to tomorrow's products and components. This rich, raw mixed plastic waste, which is mainly by-products from the large shredding and metal recovery process, is the starting point of the production process. Waste, that without their intervention, would go to landfill or incineration.

MBA Polymers UK are specialists in processing complex plastic waste streams, using sophisticated separation processes which allow them to produce a range of high quality virgin replacement recycled polymer grades including, ABS, PP, FPP, HIPS and HDPE.

Millions of tonnes of plastic are discarded each year, wasted, buried and burned. If this material is replaced with virgin polymers, it would require consumption of fossil fuels, more petrochemical extraction and processing, and more carbon released into the atmosphere. MBA Polymers UK, recycled polymers offer around an 80% reduction in carbon footprint emissions against using a virgin polymer. Turning old waste into new product is a key consideration for sustainability-minded businesses. But it’s more than a consideration for MBA Polymers UK. It’s the whole reason they exist.
