James Cripps
ELV Area Lead, South Coast

When James Cripps first started at EMR as an End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Operative in 2021, he could see a clear progression path from day one. He seized every opportunity available and, in just three years, grew into the Regional Area Lead he is today.

“Becoming a Team Leader was a great step for my future, and I’m continuing to build my leadership skills as Area Leader, as well as gaining valuable life skills along the way.”

Today, James is integral in overseeing the dismantling and recycling of materials and driving exceptional customer service across the department. However, his role is a lot broader than that.

“The job offers me lots of variety, and I’m able to work across different departments, from driving the plant, to working with non-ferrous metals. The versatility of the role, and the training opportunities at EMR have kept me engaged. I’ve undertaken management safety training and been able to visit other sites to learn how they work.”

James believes that EMR is truly a unique employer that is always looking for ways to incentivise and reward its staff:

“At EMR, you really feel like an important team member with access to annual bonuses, regular pay rises, and even healthy breakfast options!”

James also values EMR’s ambition and dedication to setting the global recycling industry standard:

“The company’s commitment to innovation and continuous growth has definitely helped with my career progression, as people have moved on to other roles, I’ve been able to step up and take on more responsibilities.”

Excellent customer service is at the heart of EMR’s business model and is an important element of James’ role.

“I really enjoy providing high-quality customer service to everyone that comes in to recycle their vehicles. My aim is to make their experience as easy and as positive as possible,” he says.

James advises that anyone looking to join the ELV department should demonstrate both strong customer and team skills, and be willing to muck in:

“It’s important to be a good team player. You also need to be hard-working, willing to get dirty, as the job can be quite messy, and have strong customer service skills, as building relationships with customers is key.”

Looking to the future, James is extremely positive, and believes that EMR offers a wide range of opportunities to help him develop and move up the career ladder:

“I’m excited about my new role and progressing further within the company. I’m eager to expand my skill set and continue to grow at EMR and make the most of any opportunities that come my way!”
