Before completing the MRGO Apprenticeship programme, Louis had been working for EMR for six years, with four of these working in ELV processing at EMR Salford. He is now working on an ELV project that sees him traveling to sites up and down the country.
We caught up with Louis to find out what he had to say about his time on the MRGO:
“Before completing the MRGO I had worked in many roles on the yard, from a General Yard Operative working with non-ferrous metals to an ELV Plant Operative processing vehicles. It is my ambition to become an Operations Manager, so I decided to complete the course to get a better understanding of the industry as a whole.
“The MRGO really helped me to develop my knowledge around the legislation that surrounds day-to-day operations within the metal recycling industry.
“Carrying out my everyday operations on the yard alongside completing my apprenticeship, I had to make sure I managed my time effectively to guarantee that I was able to carry out my coursework. The assessors for the course offered feedback on my work regularly and were always there to offer help and support whenever I needed it.
“I would recommend this apprenticeship to any newly recruited operative who wants to pursue a career in the metal recycling industry. As well as helping you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the industry, it also serves as a great way to meet new people and develop working relationships. Furthermore, the MRGO is a great gateway into further qualifications such as the Level 3 Supervisor and Manager course.”
