“I recently started work as a Business Administration Apprentice at the Training Centre which is based at Mayer Environmental in Nuneaton. I finished my A-Levels this summer and I spent some time trying to decide whether I should go to university or do an apprenticeship. I eventually came to the conclusion that I wanted to do an apprenticeship so that I could earn while I learn.
“An apprenticeship also gives you life skills, which you wouldn’t get if you went to university, such as getting into the working world and routine. I am currently thinking of pursuing a career in Human Resources (HR) - working as a business administration apprentice will help me with this, as I am exposed to different roles and responsibilities.
“If I end up choosing a career other than HR, then I will still gain the necessary skills to work in other areas, such as Finance and Marketing.
“My roles and responsibilities involve booking people on training courses, completing and filing invoices, ordering office supplies, booking conference rooms, creating handbooks and leaflets, and using different software systems for finance and e-learning. I also work for an hour a day with the reception team, this helps me socialise with new people and build up my confidence and social skills. Working with reception also gives me diversity as I’m doing something different every day.”
