Great Yarmouth & Gorelston Young Carers has obtained continued support from local metal recycler, EMR Great Yarmouth, in a partnership created in 2019.

The charity, which supports young carers and young adult carers throughout the borough of Great Yarmouth, offers a range of activities such as one to one mentoring and peer groups to help young people cope with their caring responsibilities. Established in 2011, the charity offers its services to young people aged 5 to 21 who care for a member of their family, or support their care giver in caring for a family member.

In a partnership created as part of EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme, an initiative which helps young people to build bright futures, EMR Great Yarmouth has provided a donation to enable 27 young people between the ages of 8 and 18 years to take part in respite activities during the Easter Holidays.

Terry Macrowan of Great Yarmouth and Gorelston Young Carers commented:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Russell and EMR for their continued support in enabling us to put on a Easter Holiday activity programme for our young carers.”

“This donation enabled us to take 27 young carers to either Bewilderwood or Pleasurewood hills. Our young people told us this was the first time they had been to one of these places and they had a wonderful day out, having lunch and ice cream with their friends.”

Russell Chapman, Operations Manager at EMR Great Yarmouth, highlighted why it was important for the site to continue to support the charity:

“We have been proud to support Great Yarmouth and Gorelston Young Carers for a number of years now and have seen the positive impact of the work of Terry and her team, on young people’s lives.”

“In caring for a loved one, young people may miss out on the opportunity to take part in activities many other children experience as they transition into adulthood. The Easter respite activities that the charity offers enable young people to access these opportunities and spend much needed time with their friends and peers.”
