Gold was founded in 1975 by brothers Kenny and Neil Goldberg, and has six metal recycling sites in Texas and New Mexico. The company has two main processing yards: in Dallas and Houston. The Dallas yard is supported by two feeder yards in Fort Worth and Gainesville (respectively, 40 miles and 70 miles from Dallas). The Houston yard is supported by a feeder yard in Liberty (43 miles from Houston). In 2009, the company acquired a yard in Albuquerque.

The previous major shareholders and managers of Gold, Neil and Kenny Goldberg have remained in the business as key members of the director team and also as shareholders.

EMR USA CEO Colin Iles commented:

“This is a strong strategic move for EMR in the USA. It is important for us to build on our existing operations in the south of the country and move further into Texas and beyond. EMR and Gold Metal Recyclers share the same values and we will work closely with the existing management of the business to drive the company onto even further future success.”

Gold will add significantly to the amount of non-ferrous material EMR USA is involved with, and also extends EMR USA’s general ferrous recycling interests into the heart of Texas. Gold has some 375 employees.

EMR now operates from around 150 sites world-wide and handles around 10 million tonnes and ferrous and non ferrous material annually.
