Children and families accessing support from Acorns Children's Hospice in Walsall are set to benefit from a partnership between the global leader in sustainable materials, EMR, and Morgan Sindall Construction.

The construction firm is currently delivering a brand-new Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station at Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, on behalf of Walsall Council. And, by working with the team at EMR, Morgan Sindall Construction has been able to pass on the value of its surplus materials to the hospice.

The emotional, physical, and financial pressures of childhood illnesses can place a huge strain on any family. Acorns Children's Hospice provides a happy, homely environment for children and their families to make memories, access support and receive specialist care.

As a family business that's rooted in the communities in which it operates, this project continues EMR's investment in the next generation. Around the UK, EMR donates to a range of local charities including primary school projects, to increase children's knowledge about recycling and sustainability. EMR USA, meanwhile, has a long track record of supporting Ronald McDonald House, where young people and their families can find accommodation and support during hospital visits and treatment.

The collaboration between EMR and Morgan Sindall Construction also means the two new recycling facilities have been putting material back into the circular economy before they have even opened, reducing emissions related to their construction and boosting the sustainability of the projects from day one.

Ben Taylor, Sector Head for Utilities & Construction at EMR, said: "At EMR, we're always looking for ways our business can give back to the communities where we operate. Working with Morgan Sindall Construction to deliver this donation to Acorns Children's Hospice is an incredibly powerful example of this mission in action and we hope it can make a real difference to the lives of families in unimaginable circumstances.

"The construction industry – like every sector – is having to rethink how it does business as the UK moves closer towards its 2050 net-zero target. Recycling offers a great way to cut carbon, build in greater efficiencies and gain value from material that would otherwise end up in landfill. The Middlemore Lane projects highlight how wide the benefits of this sustainable transition can reach."
