EMR, in its ambition to be a global leader in sustainable materials, is supplying more recycled materials than ever from ISO-certified sites.

Almost 90 percent of the low carbon recycled metals and plastics supplied by EMR to its customers now come from sites in the UK and Europe that are are certified to the latest ISO 14001 and 9001 standards. With all major shipping locations now also accredited to the more rigorous ISO 9001 End of Waste standard.

The certifications recognises EMR’s commitment to industry best practice in two key areas of its compliance management systems: product quality (ISO 9001) and environmental management (ISO 14001).

EMR has invested in its own training company, Mayer Environmental, to build internal competence in these areas. Mayer focuses on the following compliance standards; Product quality – ISO 9001 End of Waste; Environmental Protection – ISO 14001; Occupational Health & Safety – ISO 45001; Energy Management – ISO50001. Mayer is developing content to increase understanding of environmental management and sustainability in its vocational career training modules for apprenticeships and manager development.

EMR’s rigorous ISO-certification process includes awareness training for staff, internal audits to identify areas for improvement and is achieved via an external audit by a UKAS-accredited independent auditor.

Nancy Gray, Environmental & Regulatory Manager at EMR said:

“EMR recognises the importance of external certification as a driving force for excellence in our business. Whether this is using ISO to ensure processes and procedures are correct, or The Climate Group Science Based Targets to drive our Decade of Action on sustainability. The external certification processes ensure we hold ourself strongly to account”

“EMR colleagues at every level are engaging in this process with site managers, supported by our Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) team, implementing plans to achieve certification and maintain these high standards. But it’s also thanks to every individual member of our team on the ground who who follows our standard operating procedures each day.”
