EMR Coventry, based on Stoney Stanton Road, has partnered with Carers Trust Heart of England to offer respite activities for young carers.

Young carers often face challenges that are way beyond their years. Carers Trust Heart of England provides a vital lifeline to young carers offering a listening ear, providing information and advice and arranging trips and activities to allow them to take a break from their caring responsibilities. Working with young people between the ages of 5 and 18 years old, they support those who care for a family member, physically or emotionally, with a long term illness, disability, mental illness, drug or alcohol dependency or are elderly.

EMR’s donation will allow Carers Trust Heart of England to run 30 two hour activity sessions with 15 young carers attending each. Sessions include, quiz nights, slime making, memory jar making, cook-a-longs, and escape rooms to give young carers the opportunity to spend valueable time with their peers.

Tom Swann, Operations Manager at EMR Coventry commented:

“The responsibilities these young carers take on from a young age can often mean that they miss out on the important stepping stones in a young person’s life. The sessions that Carers Trust Heart of England offer provide young people with the opportunity to socialise with their peers, allowing them to gain the social skills that they will need to thrive into adulthood.

“I look forward to seeing the positive impact that our partnership will have.”

Mark Graham, Carers Trust Heart of England added:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for young carers, often turning a few hours a week caring role, into a 24/7 caring role. This £3,000 donation from EMR will be used to provide young carers with much needed activities to bring back a bit of normality to their lives and give them the experiences so many of them have missed out on over the past year.”

The partnership between EMR Coventry and Carers Trust Heart of England was created as part of EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme, an initiative to help young people up and down the country to build brighter futures.
