EMR Ashford, based on the Cobbs Wood Industry Estate, has joined forces with local business, DC Breathe, to create a mindful garden for school children.

EMR has donated £3,000 to DC Breathe, who specialise in wellbeing for children and adults, to create a mindful garden at Victoria Road Primary School, Ashford. The garden, constructed with the support of Millers Gardening Services (MGS), will offer a safe space for children, teachers and parents for many years to come.

The mindful garden project, recognises that mental health issues can affect individuals of all ages and aims to create a safe space where children can focus on their thoughts and practice mindfulness. In a year that has been dominated by COVID-19, young people are increasingly aware of the stresses of life, causing high levels of anxiety. The garden will offer a number of different elements to allow individuals to clear their minds, from different structures and textures to vibrant flowers.

The donation was given as part of EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme, an initiative which aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the communities in which they operate.

Sam Taylor, Commercial Manager at EMR Ashford said:

“At EMR we strive to support our local communities in any way that we can. Our Young Futures Reimagined programme aim’s to empower young people up and down the country to build brighter futures, something that the mindful garden will help to achieve.

“2020 has been a tough year for children all over the country, with many affected deeply by the disruption that has been caused to their education and ultimately, their lives. The mindful garden at Victoria Road Primary School will offer a safe space for children to clear their minds and release the stresses and anxieties that so many young people now face. We look forward to seeing the garden completed and the impact that it will have”

Donna Miller, from DC Breathe, added:

“As an adult and child Mindful Practitioner I have been fortunate enough to be commissioned into 20 Kent schools helping over 200 students with their anxiety and stress. In this time I have seen and heard the importance of a place to quiet the mind.

“Also working in the Police force and with adults I have seen the detrimental effects of stress and anxiety. I fully understand these gardens are so important for all ages to remove their minds from everyday life. Somewhere not to learn, not in the classroom just a safe outside space and incorporating into this space mindful activities. Myself and MGS are so pleased to help another school with our Mindful garden project and so grateful to EMR to help us achieve this.”
