A charity which provides disadvantaged children in Leeds with inspiring short breaks and learning experiences has received a £3,000 donation from metal recycler EMR to continue its important work.

Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm provides young people with fun-filled stays, that are centred around learning and adventure, while surrounded by 120 acres of unspoilt Yorkshire countryside. The donation from EMR will enable the charity to offer 12 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, aged 7 to 11, a well-deserved break at Lineham Farm.

The donation is the latest chapter of a continuing partnership between Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm and EMR. The charity is dedicated to brightening children’s lives, offering respite breaks and unforgettable experiences, working closely with schools, voluntary organisations and other community networks to deliver their support.

Many children will experience things for the first time – feeding and caring for animals, reaching the top of a climbing wall, learning how to ride a bike, wandering through woodlands, and paddling through the streams. The charity says that 94% of young people who attend the centre say they learned that helping others was a “good and nice thing to do”.

Billy Reid, Operations Manager at EMR’s recycling site on Pontefract Road in Leeds, says: “Once again, EMR is exceptionally proud to be supporting Leeds Children’s Charity and the amazing work they do at Lineham Farm.

“Our employees and customers are rooted in these local communities and therefore understand how valuable the work by Leeds Children’s Charity is, giving disadvantaged young people a better chance at life.

“The donation we have made will give 12 children an amazing opportunity to learn, play and take a break in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.”

Jenny Jones, Head of Fundraising at Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm, said: “EMR are a valued and long-standing supporter of Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm. We are so proud to call them one of our ‘Business Heroes’.

“Whilst walking around the farm and witnessing the enjoyment, enthusiasm, and smiles on the children’s faces, I am reminded of how important support from our local business community is – our work could not continue without it.

“A break at Lineham Farm is filled with adventure, fun and learning in a safe and happy environment – it’s childhood as it should be.”
