Apprenticeships at EMR

EMR stands strong as one as the world's largest metal recyclers. With an annual turnover of more than £3 billion and 4,000 employees at over 150 international locations, we are widely recognised as a reliable, robust industry leader.

With around 70 locations stretching from as far South as Plymouth to as far North as Dundee and over 2,000 employees in the UK alone, there are endless possibilities at EMR.

Investing in our future workforce is important to us and we're always looking for hard working people to join the ever expanding EMR team. As a result, we are pleased to offer apprenticeship opportunities in the following areas:

‘Made by Apprentices’

The Made by Apprentices scheme was launched to showcase the creative talents and contributions of the country’s apprentices. EMR is extremely proud of its apprentices and what they have achieved since joining the company.

Have a look at what some of our Apprentices have been working on:

Jack Scott, Plant Maintenance Apprentice

Since joining EMR Sheffield in 2014 Jack has gone from strength to strength. During his hands on training Jack has learnt how to identify a machine’s model and year of manufacture simply by using its serial numbers, and as a result can now order and source items using part numbers.

Here he is pictured putting his skills to the test by completing a full engine service on a Mustang Skidsteer. “Jack did a great job completing the job on his own with very little guidance needed,” said EMR Sheffield Depot Manager Wayne Kelsall.

Jack Willis, Operations Apprentice

Jack joined EMR in 2014 and is following a three year apprenticeship at EMR’s Sheffield depot. Since beginning his apprenticeship Jack has been learning about material sorting, specialist recycling processes and the importance of Health, Safety and Environmental management in the metal recycling industry.

Here he is pictured developing his product and transport knowledge while running the onsite weighbridge.

Jacob Robinson, IT Apprentice

Jacob joined EMR in 2013 on an Advanced Apprenticeship for IT & Telecoms Professionals. Jacob spends one day a week at college, followed by four days per week gaining essential hands on experience at EMR’s Head Office in Warrington.

Since joining EMR Jacob has spent time working with the company’s IT helpdesk team, learnt how to handle technical queries and provide software and hardware support. Here he is pictured assessing the server which supports the company’s international operations.

Over the last few years we have recruited some fantastic apprentices who continue to thrive at EMR. Click here to see a selection of our apprentice case studies.
