Supporting the veteran community and their families into employment

5 June 2019

We have partnered with the Attention to Logistics training programme, an employment course for ex-servicemen, women and their families, delivered by Tilbury on the Thames Trust in association with the Port of Tilbury Logistics Academy.

The programme was created to provide a true career pipeline for military veterans and their families, who are looking for careers in an ever-expanding logistics industry.

The two-day Attention to Logistics course is set to take place on 18 and 19 June where candidates will get to learn more about career opportunities at the Port of Tilbury and at EMR.

The Port of Tilbury Learning and Development Manager, Simon Harper said: “The Port of Tilbury is expanding and significant warehouse investments are being made in the Thames Gateway, the number of jobs in the Port alone is projected to increase from 3,500 to 9,000. The Attention to Logistics Programme will create improved pathways to these new opportunities for veterans and their families, whose military links make them well suited for careers in logistics.

“We are excited to run this programme in partnership with EMR, who offer an array of different opportunities at their sites across the UK.”

EMR General Manager, Steve Gatfield, said: “At EMR we have over 170 operational sites worldwide and employ around 4,000 people. We recycle around 10 million tonnes of metal each year which contributes to the saving of over 10 million tonnes of CO2 compared to using virgin materials.

“We have a diverse range of career opportunities, including HGV drivers, site operatives, operational managers, safety and environmental managers, engineers, accounting and finance experts, shipping and logistics professionals.

“Without the commitment from our employees, we would not be able to offer the levels of service and quality that make us an industry leader. That’s why we strive to make full use of our employee skills and abilities. At EMR we have a positive and motivated working environment with loyal and long-serving industry experts.

“We have regular careers and job opportunities arising in over 70 EMR facilities and offices across the UK.

“We are extremely proud to be partnering with the Attention to Logistics programme and we are looking forward to the course next month.”
