Charity helping vulnerable people in Walsall praises local metal recycler for its support

27 November 2018

Local metal recycler, EMR, launched a partnership this year with Old Hall People’s Partnership, a charity at the centre of the Bentley Community.

As part of the partnership, EMR Darlaston based on Bentley Road, donated £1,300 to support the charity’s ‘starter pack’ scheme, launched to give people who have fallen on tough times the basic living essentials.

Throughout 2018, the charity has been able to give over 50 packs to vulnerable families across Bentley, Walsall.

Talking about the success of the programme, Old Hall People’s Partnership Principle Officer, Denise Birkett said: “Our partnership with EMR has enabled us to provide this much needed help across the area.

“A particular example of how we have been able to make a difference, thanks to EMR, was when we received a telephone call from a refuge centre. They had a young mother and three small children fleeing domestic violence. The mother had been offered a property in Walsall but had no means to furnish the property and asked for our help. EMR’s funding meant that we were able to provide brand new bedding for their first night in their new home.

“We also had a single mother with two children who had moved into a flat in Walsall. She had no furniture and no means of purchasing any. The mother was over the moon to receive support from us and once again through EMR’s funding we were able to provide new bedding packs to give this young family the opportunity to sleep in a new bed with nice new covers.

“The support from EMR is making a big difference to our projects and the people of Bentley. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at EMR!”

EMR Area Manager, Steve Cunningham said: “At EMR we put a great deal of importance on supporting the communities that are close to our sites and we are delighted to have a partnership with an organisation that makes such a difference.

“Old Hall People’s Partnership supports everyone from struggling single parents, isolated older people, children in desperate need, the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and countless others in between.

“These packs give those who have no or little belongings the things we all need in our homes.”
