EMR has gone back to where it all began and opened a new non ferrous division at its oldest depot in Rochdale. The completion of the new department has been timed to coincide with a number of additional site improvements to enhance efficiency and service for people coming into the busy depot.

The development work has been received positively; particularly by those who have been bringing their scrap metal to the depot since the 1960’s when it was opened as the first Sheppard Group site. The Sheppard Group merged with Cooper Holdings in 1994 to become EMR.

Along with replacing the original offices, the site has undergone significant concreting for added efficiency and safety, and space has been made at the entrance of the yard to accommodate large deliveries, prevent congestion at the weighbridge and speed up turnaround times.

“Rochdale will always be at the heart of EMR as home to our oldest yard. It’s important to us that we continue to meet the needs of our customers in the area (old and new) by providing them with a safe and efficient environment every time they make a delivery and get the best possible return on their scrap,”

said General Manager Ian Sheppard.

EMR is one of the largest metal recyclers in the world with over 70 depots in the UK, and 150 worldwide, employing more than 3500 employees.
