Schoolboy planning charity football match in memory of his twin sister receives sponsorship from metal recycler

26 July 2018

Twelve-year-old Liam Johnson, who is planning a charity football match in memory of his twin sister, Lucy who died earlier this year, has received sponsorship from metal recycler, EMR based on Fordham Road.

Liam has organised a charity football match and fun day in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH) in Milton where Lucy sadly passed away on April 1 after suffering from epilepsy for most of her life.

The fundraising event, which is set to take place on Saturday August 4 at Soham Town Rangers, will see a match between Liam’s friends and a second match; Liam’s team against a team of dads. There will also be a raffle, auction and all day BBQ and disco.

Liam said: “After me and my twin sister Lucy were born she became ill and was diagnosed with epilepsy, the older she got the more ill she became until she recently passed away on Sunday 1 April this year.

“So I thought it would be a good thing to raise money for the hospice as they did a wonderful job of taking care of my sister and supporting us – me, mum, dad and my other sister Katie.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at EMR for their support and sponsorship for my charity football day.”

EMR Operations Manager, Peter Vasey said: “At EMR we put a great deal of importance on supporting the communities that are close to our sites and we are delighted to be able support Liam’s fundraising event.

“EACH do an incredible job supporting families and caring for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. We wish Liam and his family the best of luck.”
