EMR celebrates top health and safety accreditation

12 April 2018

One of the world’s largest metal recycling companies, EMR, has been awarded accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace.

SafeContractor is one of the fastest growing health and safety assessment schemes in the UK with more than 28,000 members and 370 clients. It recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. Under the scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

Developed from a single site in Rochdale, EMR now has over 170 operational sites worldwide and employees around 4,000 people. EMR, who has been accredited with SafeContractor since 2012, has been successfully reaccredited to ensure its customers continue to recognise its commitment to safety.

Lorraine Sant, EMR Group Health and Safety Manager said: “We are delighted to have achieved our SafeContractor approval again. We are committed to setting industry standards and strive to perform safely, efficiently and compliantly. This accreditation recognises our high standards of health and safety and re-enforces our commitment to protecting the well-being of our employees and our partners.

Gemma Archibald, Director of Alcumus SafeContractor said: “More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that EMR has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.

“SafeContractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process.”
