EMR raises money for Portsmouth ChildrenÂ’s Hospital Ward

5 February 2018

Employees at our Portsmouth depot have raised more than £500 for the paediatric department at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

Customers at our site in Dundas Spur were invited to correctly guess the weight of a 1,250 kilogramme bale of scrap metal for a fee of £1. The customer who came the closest out of the 150 entrants to guessing the correct weight received a £250 Love2shop voucher.

The proceeds from the competition have been donated to The Children’s Bubbles Fund, which supports the paediatric department at Queen Alexandra Hospital by raising money to purchase vital equipment to enhance the treatment of patients in their care. The department has already been able to invest in a Blood Gas Analyser from donations received within the first four months of setting up the fund, helping to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sick children.  The Children’s Bubble Fund has a fundraising target of £100,000 and is currently a third of the way towards reaching the overall target.

Victoria Greenshields, Fundraising Manager at Portsmouth Hospitals Charity welcomed the donation from the local EMR depot. She said: “We were extremely grateful to have been chosen by the EMR team to benefit from their fundraising activity - every pound donated really makes a difference to the department and helps us make ongoing improvements to patient and staff welfare. The donation from EMR will help make children and their families more comfortable during their stay at the Queen Alexandra Hospital and so we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at EMR and all those who took part in the competition!”

Sam Tudjaroglu, Area Manager for EMR Portsmouth said: “We wanted to help raise money for the paediatric department at Queen Alexandra Hospital to support the incredible work the staff there do on a daily basis and it’s great to know that the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of local children. We’d like to thank all of our customers for their enthusiasm and generosity in taking part and we’re looking forward to keeping the momentum going with an ongoing effort to raise money for charities within the local Portsmouth area.”
