EMR Helps Build Lego Program in Tilbury Schools

24 November 2016

The BuildToExpress method uses specialized LEGO sets and is delivered by trained staff and educational psychologists. We particularly liked The BuildToExpress programme as it is accessible to young children and is proven to rapidly develop the communication skills of pupils of all ages and abilities. The GLC will use it as an integral part of each school’s construction topics of My Future, Our Town, Respect and Teamwork.

Kevin Sadler the CEO of the GLC said "It’s great when local companies get involved and talk to us about what we need. Developing local community relationships with local businesses really shows a commitment from the business to support the local offer to young people in Tilbury.”

We have been working with Sarah Curtis, the Group Special Educational Needs coordinator from Gateway Learning Community, to identify the equipment needed. Alongside the 15 LEGO sets we are also funding a fantastic technical LEGO kit of a crane which will hopefully spark interest in the work that we do within the Port. We will also fund a digital camera so the young people can capture their creations.

EMR General Manager, Richard Wicks said “we are delighted to be able to fund this for the Gateway Learning Community Trust as just one part of our commitment to working with the local community in Tilbury. We look forward to presenting the kits of LEGO to the schools and then seeing some of the pictures of the children’s constructions.”
